See what to bring along with New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week is just around the corner, and this year, I’m finally getting it right. Unlike previous years where I dragged a giant bag filled with books, water bottles, cameras, and multiple pairs of shoes, I’ve decided to embrace the "less is more" philosophy. This time, I’m only bringing what I truly need — everything else is just extra. Water? The venues will have free bottles, so no need to carry that extra weight. Reading? Let’s be real — there’s no time for that during a packed schedule. Shoes? One pair is enough. You don’t want to look like you’re auditioning for a runway show yourself. And as for a digital camera? That’s for the pros. I’ll be fine capturing moments with my iPhone. Speaking of which, my iPhone is now my most essential tool. It handles email, social media, internet browsing, and even photography. Steve Jobs was a genius — I live on this device. But let’s not forget: always bring the charger. A dead phone is a disaster. Maybe also bring a BlackBerry if you need to stay in constant contact with your office. Editors can get really upset if they can’t reach you. Lipstick? Keep it subtle — no shine, no drying. It’s fashion week, not a beauty pageant. Pen and notepad? I still love the old-school touch. A sleek, tiny pen and a small notebook help me jot down quotes or ideas quickly without fumbling with a recorder or rushing outside to write things down. Plus, it gives me a little bit of that journalist vibe. Sunglasses are a must — they help avoid awkward eye contact and protect my eyes from the bright lights. And of course, don’t forget your invitations. Whether you're a fashion PR person or a journalist, having your barcodes printed in advance is a lifesaver. I’ve already printed all mine so I won’t miss a single show. Trust me, you’ll thank me later.
