New York Fashion Week is around the corner, and this year I’ve decided to embrace a new approach. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week kicked off at Lincoln Center on February 10, but for me, this season’s event will be different. No more lugging around a huge bag full of books, water bottles, cameras, and extra shoes. My new mantra is: *less is more*. So, when I head to Fashion Week next week, I’ll only bring the essentials. Everything else? That’s just clutter. Water? The venue has free water stations. Reading? Please, who has time to study during a fashion show? A few pairs of shoes? No way—this is Fashion Week, not a job interview. A digital camera? Let the pros handle that. I can enjoy the shows just fine with my eyes. Here’s what I’m actually bringing: **iPhone** – It’s my lifeline. With it, I can email, tweet, browse the web, take photos, and stay connected. Steve Jobs was a genius. At times, I feel like I live off my phone alone. But don’t forget: **charger**. Is it worth bringing? Maybe. Or maybe I’ll rely on the **BlackBerry** to stay in touch with the office. If editors can’t reach me for hours, they’ll be furious. **Lipstick** – Dull, not shiny. Less drying, fewer lip lines. Simple and effective. **Pen & Notepad** – This is my small nod to the old-school press. With a sleek, 10-centimeter silver pen and a notebook, I can jot down quotes, notes, and observations without fumbling with a recorder or rushing out to write things down later. It’s efficient and elegant. **Sunglasses** – They’re not just for style. They help avoid the awkwardness of staring directly into people’s faces. **Invitations** – Whether you're a PR pro or a journalist, having your digital pass handy is essential. But if you forget to print your barcode, you’ll be in trouble. I’m printing all my barcodes in advance so I don’t miss a single show. You should do the same—you’ll thank me later. This list may seem minimal, but it’s all I need to survive (and thrive) at Fashion Week. Less gear means more freedom, and more time to truly experience the magic of the runway.
