Winter clothing quoted at the end of "shopping" spring to see more thin to buy less
In recent days, the average daily temperature in Luoyang has remained above 3°C, with today's high reaching 14°C. As the weather gradually warms up, major shopping malls have launched their spring sales events. A reporter visited several stores and found that winter clothing, which is about to be removed from shelves, is being heavily discounted, drawing large crowds of shoppers. In contrast, newly introduced spring outfits are being displayed but not as actively purchased.
Winter clothes are now heavily discounted, with many stores offering promotions such as "20% off" or "50% clearance sales." These deep discounts have sparked a wave of consumer interest, encouraging people to "scan for deals" and take advantage of the reduced prices.
Ms. Liu, a resident of Lichun West Road, was seen browsing the discount section at Dennis Department Store on Nanchang Road this morning. She said, "I really liked this outfit before the Spring Festival, but it wasn’t discounted at the original price of 900 yuan. Now, with the clearance sale, I can buy it for half the price—saving over 500 yuan, which is definitely worth it."
According to a local store owner on Jinghua Road, the winter season wasn't particularly cold, so sales didn't meet expectations. With a large stock of winter clothes remaining and new spring collections already on display, businesses are pushing for more aggressive discounts to clear inventory. Although these promotions reduce profit margins, they help merchants recover capital and keep operations running smoothly.
On the other hand, the introduction of spring fashion has been relatively quiet. At department stores like Dennis, Thousands, and Wangfujing, spring items such as blouses, dresses, T-shirts, and knitwear are prominently displayed. Some brands even offer discount cards ranging from 70% to 90% off to attract customers.
However, despite the promotions, consumer response has been lukewarm. A salesperson at a women’s brand counter at Thousands Department Store mentioned that although new spring clothes were on display, very few were actually sold. “I hung up dozens of pieces, but no one bought any,†she said.
Some shoppers expressed that while the spring fashion is appealing, the fabric is too thin and similar to summer wear. They prefer to wait for bigger discounts rather than purchase at full price.
A well-known clothing dealer noted that Luoyang's spring season is short, and the window for spring sales is limited. Many branded spring collections lean toward lightweight, summer-style dresses, using fabrics like chiffon and satin. The increased availability of skirts and shorts has also influenced buying behavior. Given the high initial prices, most consumers are waiting for better deals rather than purchasing immediately.
