Today, we're excited to share some unique takes on the Verdun Woven T-Shirt crafted by members of our Advisors Circle. Each of them put their own creative spin on the pattern, and we think you'll enjoy seeing the variety.
First up is Asmita. She had never made a woven tee before but was eager to give it a try. Based on her measurements, she went with an XS at the bust, grading to an S at the hips, and shortened the length by 3 inches. The simplicity of the pattern allowed her to showcase her beautiful "jamdani" fabric, which is a soft, handwoven muslin from Bangladesh and West Bengal. She mentioned that next time, she might experiment with contrasting fabrics for the hem facings. Overall, she's thrilled with how sleek and stylish this piece turned out to be.
Next, Lyndsey shared her experience. She immediately reached for a striking black linen from her collection to create her version. Her goal was to craft a minimalist yet versatile top that could easily transition from casual to formal settings. For this version, she sewed a Medium with a D cup and applied common adjustments like grading to a Large at the hips, a high round neck, forward shoulder, and sway back. To add a touch of flair, she hand-stitched the neck facings and hem using an embroidered whip stitch with cotton thread. While the photos don't fully capture the charm, it's become one of her favorite projects.
Erica took a completely different approach. When a neighbor offered up an entire bolt of men's wool suiting, she jumped at the chance to work with such a luxurious material. It's durable enough for machine washing and perfect for a cooler weather Verdun. Since she often needs to adjust shoulders on blouse patterns, the dropped-shoulder design suited her well. She made a straight size Small without any other changes besides shortening the sleeves by 1 inch.
Mire also opted for a casual look, choosing a lovely blue linen from her stash. She appreciated how straightforward the pattern was to sew and how versatile the finished product is. Whether paired under a cardigan or worn alone as a summer top, she knows this tee will get plenty of wear.
Lastly, Liz shared her journey. As someone who typically focuses on robes and sweatshirts during MeMadeMay, she was ready to try something new. The clean lines and easy construction of the Verdun appealed to her. She found a dobby chambray in blue (and now wants it in gray too!) that she hopes will keep her cool during North Carolina summers. Initially, she added 2 inches to the length due to concerns about tops being too short, but upon reflection, she realized the extra length wasn't necessary. For future versions, she plans to focus on fitting adjustments, inspired by the helpful resources available online. She's already thinking about making this top in multiple colors!
These creations highlight the versatility of the Verdun pattern and demonstrate how each sewer brings their unique perspective to the table. We can't wait to see what everyone makes next!
