US imports $40 billion in clothing from January to May

From January to May, China continued to maintain its position as the first supplier of textiles and garments in the United States and exported a total of US$14.45 billion in the United States. Among the top five importers in the United States, from January to May, Vietnam exported US 3.338 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 13.19% year-on-year. India, Indonesia, and Bangladesh are other major suppliers to the United States. India exports US$2.735 billion in US textile and clothing, Indonesia exports US$2.33 billion, and Bangladesh exports US$2.196 billion. Among textile and apparel suppliers, Norway has the fastest growth. From January to May, Norway exported US$131.45 million to the United States, while last year it only increased US$1.814 million, a year-on-year increase of 624%. The data shows that in terms of product categories, the United States imported garments worth 30.114 billion U.S. dollars in the first five months of the year and imported 9.896 billion U.S. dollars in non-clothing products. The United States imported USD 204.85 billion in cotton products, followed by imports of man-made fibers of USD 17.37 billion and imported wool textiles of USD 1.221 billion. In 2012, the United States imported US$76.81 billion in apparel and US$24.12 billion in non-clothing products.
